Fortune Pai Gow

Pai gow poker is the American version of pai gow – a Chinese dominoes game. Pai gow was introduced to the US market by Sam Torosian, who invented it based on the Asian model. Sadly for him, he didn’t patent it and ended up losing a potential fortune. The game quickly gained popularity and nowadays is considered a classic.

'Fortune' is a side bet in Pai Gow Poker that pays based on the value of the player's seven cards. It doesn't not matter how the player sets his hand. In addition, if another player has a four of a kind or better the player making the Fortune bet will get an 'Envy Bonus.' At every table I have seen there is a $5 minimum and the Envy Bonus is a fixed amount.

Following are pay tables that I am aware of, based on the player's own hand. Wins are on a 'to one' basis.

I have an unconfirmed report that the following pay table is offered in Washington State. The bet amount is $1, nd there is no Envy Bonus. The following return table shows the return from the fixed wins only is 48.45%. For every $10,000 in the meter, the return will go up by 0.76%. The break-even meter (when there is no house edge) is $679,171.90

Fortune Pai Gow Poker Progressive - Version 2

This is a $1 progressive jackpot bet I have seen at the Wynn, Rampart, Golden Nugget, and Suncoast casinos. Wins are paid on a 'for one' basis, in other words the player doesn't get his bet back if he wins. The return column shows the return for only fixed wins. In other words, not including the top two awards, the player can expect to get back 46.27% of his money back.

House Way for..

Written by:Michael ShacklefordFortune pai gow payouts

East meets West in this exciting game of Poker! Fortune Pai Gow combines the elements of Poker and Asian Pai Gow (dominoes).

Object of the game

The object is to beat the Banker’s hand using your seven cards to create two separate hands consisting of a two-card hand and a five-card hand. The Banker may be any Player or the house Dealer.

How to Play

Each Player occupies a square numbered 1 – 6. Each square receives seven cards with the order of deal determined by a random number generator. In order to win, both your two-card hand and your five-card hand must be higher in value than the Banker’s two-card and five-card hands. A “push” occurs when only 1 of your two-hands is higher in value. Your five-card hand must always be higher in ranking than your two-card hand. The house Dealer will be happy to assist you in arranging your hands or explaining the rankings once all Players have set their hands, and prior to the Banker exposing its hand. Dealer will always assist by using the “House Way”.

The Cards

Fortune Pai Gow is played using a standard deck of 52 playing cards, plus one Joker. The Joker, or “Bug” as it is known, can be used only as an Ace, or to complete a straight, a flush or a straight flush.

Payouts

Winning hands are paid even money. The “Banker” wins identical hands, called “Copy Hands”. The winnings of each Player and the net winnings of the Player/Banker are subject to a 5% commission collected by the Dealer. Players are automatically offered the position of “Banker” in sequence of play. They may however decline, in which case the house will deal and assume the position of “Banker”. Players may not communicate or exchange hand information during the play of a hand. Once the Dealer exposes the Banker’s hand, Players cannot touch their cards. Any Player’s hand that is set incorrectly (i.e. the two-card low hand ranks higher than the five-card high hand) is considered a “fouled” hand and is an automatic loser.

Fortune Bonus – Pai Gow

Pai Gow Poker Fortune Bonus

Players wishing to play the Fortune Bonus put an amount between $1 and $50 in the Fortune Bonus betting space immediately in front of their Pai Gow betting square. Players win if their seven-card hand contains combinations of cards shown on the Table of Pay posted on the Fortune Pai Gow table. This payment will be received regardless of how Players decide to set their hands. Additionally, wager of $5 or greater on the Fortune Bonus are eligible for an Envy bonus if ANY other Player on the table receives a hand of 4-of-a-kind or higher! Players must play the basic game of Pai Gow to be able to bet the Fortune Bonus. The Dealer’s hand NEVER qualifies for an Envy bonus even when acting as a Player.
